Cargobull North America boosts performance and efficiency with optional bulkhead, microchannel condenser
Two years into a joint-venture agreement, Utility Trailer Manufacturing and Schmitz Cargobull continue introducing new options to enhance their ultra-low emission transport refrigeration units (TRUs).
This year’s additions include a moveable, track-mounted load-dividing bulkhead for efficient multi-temp operation, and a state-of-the-art microchannel condenser said to enhance efficiency, increase output, and boost performance of the 625 and 655MT Hybrid TRUs.

These products were on display at the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council’s 2025 Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition in Nashville.
The load-dividing bulkhead is the latest option for Utility’s 3000R multi-temp refrigerated trailer. It’s a moveable, track-mounted bulkhead that enhances energy efficiency and allows flexible temperature management by enabling different compartments with varying temperatures and volume capacities.
The efficient sealing system forms an airtight seal, preserving optimal temperatures within compartments. This feature significantly reduces air flow and thermal transfer between compartments, optimizing thermal efficiency for partial loads, the company says.
“The partition wall is designed to be strong and reliable, eliminating the need for a mattress partition. It is easy to operate, with no shrinking during up and down movement,” said Andreas Schmitz, president and CEO of Schmitz Cargobull. “The wall features automatic pressure equalization through the retraction of side and bottom seals when opening and is operated by a central locking lever.”
It also features an angle-dependent brake for one-hand operation and automatically locks in the parking position, whether the wall is in the upper or lower position.
Schmitz Cargobull introduced the load-dividing bulkhead in its native Germany recently to positive customer reviews.
Microchannel condenser
Schmitz Cargobull has also developed a microchannel condenser that is claimed to enhance efficiency, increase output, and boost overall performance of the model 625 and 655MT Hybrid TRUs, which already meet the 2030 emissions standards.
Its compact design makes it easier to integrate into the TRUs and allows for improved airflow. Despite its size, this microchannel condenser improves heat transfer and increases the already-high cooling capacity, the company says. Cargobull’s variable-speed engine control helps the TRU maintain optimal thermal performance.
“Our microchannel condenser offers better thermal efficiency, ensuring optimal cooling capacity even in elevated ambient temperatures,” said Schmitz. “At high outside temperatures, the condenser maintains reliable performance, crucial for consistent refrigeration.”
According to Schmitz, the new microchannel condenser reduces the refrigerant charge by three pounds, which lowers both upfront and replacement costs, and checks a sustainability box.
The Cargobull 625 and 655MT TRUs are both California Air Resources Board-certified as ULETRU (ultra-low-emissions TRU) Evergreen units. These TRUs are exclusively available on Utility Trailer 3000R reefers.

Cargobull North America
Cargobull North America (CBNA) is a joint venture between Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company and Schmitz Cargobull, formed in September 2023. Schmitz Cargobull is a global trailer manufacturer with an established position in the TRU market in Europe, Asia, Australia, and South Africa.
Schmitz Cargobull produces between 45,000 and 65,000 units per year for overseas markets, and 150,000 active telematics systems in service. Speaking at a TMC press event, Schmitz said his company is the top TRU producer in Europe with better than 50% market share.
Like Utility, Schmitz Cargobull is still a family-owned company.
CBNA offers advanced transport refrigeration units (TRUs) and telematics solutions to the North American market.
The joint venture with Utility opens a door to the North American TRU market.
Schmitz told TruckNews.com the new lineup of TRUs, the load-dividing bulkhead and more will debut in Canada sometime this year.
“You’ll see it first at Utility’s Mississauga, Ont., facility soon,” he said. “Watch for it.”
