Daimler Truck Financial Services and Geico insurance have partnered to launch Connected Insurance, a data-driven telematics-based program designed to help Freightliner and Western Star owner-operators and small fleets lower their commercial vehicle insurance costs while promoting safer driving.

The program builds on Geico’s DriveEasy Pro platform and allows customers to voluntarily share real-time Detroit Connect telematics data without installing extra diagnostic or dashcam hardware. By using existing vehicle data, insurers can assess risk more accurately and streamline claims, with eligible drivers saving up to 10% on premiums.

“This strategic partnership with Geico introduces a smart, data-driven insurance option that helps our customers reduce one of their largest operational expenses,” said Kevin Bangston, president and CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services North Americ, in a news release.

Chris Sions, Geico’s head of partnerships, said the collaboration supports the insurer’s national expansion into commercial trucking. “Real-time data from Daimler Truck’s telematics platform allows us to better assess risk, reward safe driving, and deliver meaningful savings to our customers,” he said. “Expanding our commercial trucking insurance nationwide requires strong partnerships like the one we’ve built with Daimler Truck Financial Services.”

The launch comes amid growing pressure on small carriers and owner-operators facing rising insurance costs — ranked the fourth-highest challenge for fleets in the American Transportation Research Institute’s latest report.
