Direct ChassisLink Inc. (DCLI), a container chassis provider in the intermodal sector, will deploy BlackBerry Radar on 100,000 of its 53-ft. domestic chassis as part of a fleetwide modernization initiative aimed at improving operational visibility and efficiency.

The decision follows more than five years of collaboration between the two companies, during which DCLI tested the asset tracking technology on a subset of its equipment, according to a news release.

Waterloo, Ont.-based BlackBerry says its Radar device will provide DCLI and its customers with ‘near real-time’ tracking data, location-based alerts, and improved inventory and maintenance visibility, including FMCSA inspection readiness and optimized maintenance scheduling. The platform also enables digital monitoring of motion, mileage, temperature, humidity, and door status, among other metrics, to support billing, dispatching, and regulatory compliance, according to the release.

“With the deployment of Radar, DCLI is taking a vital step in its digital transformation efforts,” said Christopher Plaat, senior vice-president and general manager of BlackBerry Radar. “At a time where the freight industry continues to grapple with driver shortages, rising costs, and supply chain disruptions, the need for advanced asset visibility with enhanced fleet management solutions has never been more important.”

DCLI CEO Lee Newitt said the rollout supports the company’s long-standing focus on quality and customer value. “Equipping our entire DCL53 chassis fleet with GPS technology is a testament to our ongoing mission to lead the intermodal industry with innovative solutions and unparalleled fleet quality,” he said in the release.
