Detroit adds video capture through Detroit Connect

by Today's Trucking

Detroit has added video capture to its Detroit Connect suite of driver assistance technologies.

Detroit Connect Video Capture (DCVC) is a subscription-based option accessed through the Detroit Connect portal. It records events such as active braking and roll stability events.

DCVC complements Safety Event Viewer (standard) and Safety Analytics (optional) to provide fleets with a more comprehensive safety-reporting system. It uses the Detroit Assurance MPC2 forward-facing camera and records events when they occur, including the surrounding 30-second interval.

Details such as a truck’s speed and braking profile are shown alongside the video, as well as vehicle location and a summary of events displayed on the dashboard.

“We pride ourselves on making safety our top priority, and with this latest innovation to Detroit Connect, customers will have access to comprehensive visual data that will allow truck owners to coach drivers through dangerous situations, increasing safe driving behaviors long-term,” said Len Copeland, product marketing manager at Daimler Truck North America. “This technology is an integral part of providing safety for fleets and we’re proud to offer this optional service, giving our customers the confidence to make informed decisions.”

DCVC is available to customers for order when new trucks are spec’d. Subscriptions are offered in one-, three- or five-year terms.
