Eaton introduces 48-volt DC-DC converters

Eaton has unveiled a family of 48-volt DC-DC converters that can be used to power accessories like antilock brakes and lighting.

Unlike competing products, these converters will also operate in ambient temperatures up to 85 Celsius, and have a 97% design efficiency, the company says.

Many commercial vehicle makers are shifting to 48-volt architectures, making it important to convert power from high to low voltages.

These particular units take power from a 48-volt system and reduce it to 24 volts, and a bi-directional unit then further pulls the power down to 12 volts for low-voltage systems and charges the battery available in case the main power supply fails.

Another feature includes high-power lock box power connectors designed by Royal Power Solutions. The terminals are waterproof up to a meter a deep and can withstand high-pressure water spray.

Noise reduction and rejection capabilities, meanwhile, help to ensure the converter doesn’t interfere with vehicle electronics. And the air-cooled designs reduce power losses over a wide operating range.
