ELD with Printer

Continental’s aftermarket business offers its VDO RoadLog ELD (electronic logging device) as an affordable way to meet the coming mandate. It’s said to be one of the first stand-alone ELDs available in North America, featuring a built-in printer that can automatically print out the driver’s log.

The plug-and-play RoadLog combines GPS data with input from the vehicle to create a digital log that the driver can either download or print out on the spot. It’s available with no monthly fees or contracts.

VDO RoadLog is said to fit any operation, whether it’s an owner operator with one truck or a fleet with 100. The ELD and software will meet all of the final rule’s standards for hardware, software, connectivity methods, tamper-resistance, and integration with the vehicle’s engine.

The RoadLog’s built-in thermal printer produces a traditional logbook graph in the same style and formatting as the logbooks that inspection officials are accustomed to seeing. This is a very unique feature, says Continental, that can help minimize hassles and delays during inspections.

The software is designed to convert the driver’s log data into a complete, compliant operations record. The records are always accurate and up to date, eliminating any issues with logbook entry errors and incomplete logs that can result in hefty fines. The printouts deliver all of the information that a manual log provides.

The RoadLog also provides multiple options for transferring and storing driver data as well as free ongoing software upgrades to meet future regulatory requirements. It’s compatible with both modern CAN-bus vehicles and older vehicles with no data ports.
