Mack mDrive HD transmission for high-powered pumpers

by Today's Trucking

Mack TerraPro cabover concrete pumpers with 13-liter MP8 engines can now be spec’d with 13- or 14-speed Mack mDrive HD automated manual transmissions.

The mDrive HD has been available on TerraPro trucks since 2019, but it can now be paired with those using higher horsepower.

Operators using trucks with booms that stretch out 30-40 meters or more prefer bigger pumps and higher horsepower to move concrete through the boom, Mack says.

The MP8 engine delivers 505 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque. And the mDrive HD features split-shaft PTO functions, receiving the output directly from the transmission, delivering the higher torques required for large auxiliary equipment like concrete pumps, the OEM adds.

Other promoted transmissions features include stronger gears and synchros, as well as low-ratio creeper gears that improve startability and low-speed maneuvers. A “rock free” feature helps to free stuck vehicles by rocking the truck back and forth, simply by pumping the accelerator, while “auto neutral” puts the transmission into neutral when the parking brake is set.
