LEHIGH VALLEY, Penn. — Mack Trucks has announced it will be sponsoring a Driving Skills Safety Challenge during the Waste Expo show in Las Vegas Apr. 5-6.

The competition will pit CDL holders against each other as they maneuver a Mack Granite MP engine series axle back chassis through a closed course set up to simulate an actual job site. Contestants will have to conduct a pre-operation safety check, complete the skills course and then return the truck to the stored position and secure it as though it were the end of a work day.

Points will be awarded and first-, second- and third-place winners will be announced each day.

“This is our way of acknowledging and thanking a group of drivers whose professionalism and contribution to safety are not traditionally recognized in skills events,” said Tom Kelly, Mack vice-president of marketing.

The competition will be held in the Silver Lot #2 outside the Las Vegas Convention Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Apr. 5 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Apr. 6.
