Mack Trucks has announced the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) for adaptive maintenance as part of its Premium Service Contract, designed to enhance uptime and improve service for small- and medium-sized fleets.

The use of AI allows Mack to adjust maintenance intervals based on data such as fuel usage, engine hours, idle time, and oil consumption, the company said in a news release. This creates a customized maintenance schedule tailored to each customer’s operations and real-time truck data, ensuring maintenance is performed at the right time.

Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America said in a news release that adaptive maintenance, including time-based or mile-based engine hours, triggers the dealer to schedule maintenance at the appropriate time, reducing downtime.

“When AI detects that the truck needs to receive a valve adjustment at 150,000 miles and an oil change at 120,000 miles, then the truck is serviced at 120,000 miles to reduce an additional stop,” added Mike Furst, director of contract services and business technology solutions.        

The Premium Service Contract offers fleets a range of benefits, including dedicated maintenance management through local Mack dealers, upfront parts and labor costs for consistent budgeting, and optimized adaptive maintenance for better vehicle health and uptime. Mack Certified Uptime Dealers ensure consistent repair and maintenance standards across the network.

The service contract is available for normal-duty, heavy-duty, and severe-duty applications and applies to vehicles powered by Mack engines, including those already in service with completed maintenance intervals.
