OBSTACLE DETECTION

The new SenseStat wired obstacle detection sensor system from Mobile Awareness is a “cost effective” safety tool activated automatically when reverse gear is engaged. The driver is alerted to objects behind the vehicle with both audible and visual (LED display) indicators. The waterproof sensors are said to work in all weather conditions and provide the location of an obstacle in any of four individual areas behind the vehicle, accurate to within one inch.

Commercial vehicle owners now have a choice of wired or wireless tools to help prevent backing accidents.
Based on a design optimized for long vehicles such as commercial trucks pulling trailers, the Mobile Awareness SenseStat system is offered in models suitable for either tractor-trailers or straight trucks.

Mobile Awareness says there are some applications where a wired installation is preferred so as to avoid wireless signal interference or when there’s no available power source on the trailer.

Developed using a leading-edge sensor technology, the system’s four waterproof sensors and ECU (electronic control unit) are said to mount easily on the rear of the truck or trailer. The dash-mounted warning display connects to the ECU via a single waterproof cable that installs under the vehicle. Only one two-wire connection is required to complete the installation.

Other features include the ability to adjust the furthest end location of the vehicle due to overhanging objects such as a trailer hitch or extended bumpers. The monitor displays all zones simultaneously in real-time, while indicating the specific area closest to an object.
