PC-MILER 23

ALK Technologies says PC-MILER 23 is North America’s first routing and mileage solution to include carbon emissions and intermodal analysis functionality. This 23rd annual edition also includes map data updates such as truck restrictions and truck-specific toll costs.

The new Intermodal Analysis feature calculates alternative rail intermodal routes for truck shipments to run quick comparisons of truck and intermodal mileage, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions. Meanwhile the updated Points of Interest database can display small, medium, and large intermodal ramps throughout the U.S. and Canada. The analysis tool is offered within PC-MILER|Spreadsheets and connects the program’s highway and rail products.

ALK says this software reduces out-of-route mileage, saving time, tolls, and fuel. Version 23 offers expanded capabilities in toll calculation to include tolls determined by weight and truck axles. It now calculates weight-based tolls on the specific categories and rates applied by each individual toll authority, rates up to 136,000 lb. Tolls based on axles can be calculated for single and multiple trailer trucks up to 14 axles. The program includes 27 discount toll programs and 68,300 unique toll paths.

Users can enter a vehicle’s height, length, width and weight when generating routes. The application will create mileage and directions taking those factors into account, a particular benefit for oversized loads.

Other notable updates include an additional 117,000 truck restriction and allowance enhancements. Weight restriction, weight allowance, and commercial vehicle constraints have been updated for 36 state and local municipalities in the U.S. and Canada. This includes more than 12,500 new weight allowances.

As well, there are updated Canadian dangerous goods restrictions with significant enhancements and dangerous goods classifications throughout Canada.

PC-MILER runs on Microsoft Windows, UNIX, and Linux platforms as well as IBM AS/400, iSeries and System i midrange and mainframe computers.
