Rand McNally upgrades GPS units

by Today's Trucking

Rand McNally has updated its TND 750 and TND 550 truck-specific GPS devices, each of which includes the new Rand Navigation 2.0 navigation software.

The software itself includes a new interface, visuals such as three-dimensional cities and landmarks, and more precise truck routing and options for avoiding traffic. Drivers can use it to create customized routes, too.

The TND 750 includes a high-definition seven-inch screen, while the TND 550 has a five-inch screen. They represent the sixth generation of dedicated truck-specific GPS devices.

Physical upgrades include stronger magnetic mounts to hold the units in place, and new processors to deliver routes and responses more quickly. Data includes live traffic, current fuel prices, weather conditions, and rated points of interest.
