Teletrac Navman introduces privacy mode for AI dash cams
Teletrac Navman has introduced an Enhanced Privacy Mode for its AI-enabled Smart Dash Cam, allowing fleets to pause driver-facing video recording while maintaining in-cab safety alerts and event detection.
The new feature is designed to balance safety with driver privacy—a growing concern among fleet operators and drivers alike, the company said in a news release.

A recent survey by Teletrac Navman found that while 85% of fleets view AI as the future of safety, nearly a quarter (23%) cited concerns over privacy tied to cameras and AI. Enhanced Privacy Mode directly addresses this issue by allowing fleet managers to continue monitoring unsafe behaviors—such as mobile phone use or erratic driving—without capturing continuous in-cab video.
“Fleets must recognize the importance of driver comfort regarding data collection, especially when it comes to sensitive information,” said Andrew Rossington, chief product officer at Teletrac Navman, in the release. “With features like Enhanced Privacy Mode, we can protect employees while simultaneously leveraging advancements in safety.”
The Smart Dash Cam includes dual forward- and inward-facing AI-powered cameras and records video in real time, offering insight into driver performance and behavior. The system generates performance scores and flags opportunities for coaching or rewards.
“Implementing this feature benefits customers who are sensitive to drivers’ concerns about privacy while still wanting to monitor inward alert data,” Rossington added. “This feature was designed with the driver in mind to respect their privacy and facilitate the adoption of inward-facing dash cams.”
