CTA makes its case to feds during pre-budget submission

There’s an extra sense of urgency in the Canadian Trucking Alliance’s (CTA) pre-budget submission to the federal government this year.

The alliance says it needs “immediate action” to address Canada’s economy, supply chain and trucking industry.

“With systemic issues like tax non-compliance, road safety, and unfair competition threatening the trucking sector, CTA’s submission outlines key policy recommendations aimed at restoring fairness and ensuring the long-term competitiveness of Canada’s transportation network,” CTA said in a release.

Naturally, it wants the feds to crack down on driver misclassification and tax evasion. The CTA also is urging the government to implement Permanent Full Expensing for Canadian fleets, so they are on equal footing with U.S. carriers that enjoy such a tax incentive.

The alliance is also requesting attention to: oversized/overweight movements, creating a centralized safety and compliance database for trucking companies; expanding truck rest areas; and investing in Canada Border Services Agency’s IT infrastructure to reduce costly cross-border delays.
