Brampton trucker nabbed at border in $23.3-million cocaine bust
A Brampton, Ont., truck driver is facing charges after 187 kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of $23.3 million was found in a commercial truck he was driving at the Blue Water port of entry in Point Edward, Ont.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said in a news release that on June 12, a commercial truck arrived from the U.S. at the Blue Water Bridge port of entry and was referred for a secondary examination.
During the inspection of the trailer, border services officers, with the assistance of a detector dog, discovered 161 bricks of suspected cocaine contained in six boxes.

The CBSA arrested Karamveer Singh, 27, and transferred him and the suspected narcotics to the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Singh has been charged by the RCMP with Importation of Cocaine, and Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The charges have not yet been tested in court.
The investigation is ongoing. To date this year, border services officers have seized a total of 978 kg of cocaine at Southern Ontario ports of entry.

If let out on bail they will never see him again. He is obviously connected to a major drug operation.. They will have him back in India immediately.

How do you know this? I know drivers who have had contraband found in their trailers, been arrested, charged, lost their jobs and had nothing to go with it, so if you don’t have the facts, then don’t say it like you do!
It can just ad easily happen to you!
Is this the same guy from the CBC story on drivers inc?
The Judges will let him out on bail, so what is the point of the customs officers doing their job!!!!!
This man is a killer in the long term, so why not treat him as such!!!!!!

Again, how do you know this ?
You are surmising. Like I said to another comment on here. Drug dealers are smarter than you and me and it isn’t hard to smuggle stuff into a trailer without the knowledge of a driver, do wait and see first what the investigation turns up.
Congrats to CBSA. Keep up the good work. We don’t need these bad apples tarnishing our industry.
Who is the carrier and who is the owner?
Does the carrier properly screen drivers prior to hiring including doing criminal checks and background checks?
Looks like just another problem carrier with very poor controls in place or the carrier is involved in criminal activities.
Another driver painting the rest of us with the same brush and the public believing we are all like this but just haven’t been caught yet.
Was thedriver aware of his “bonus” cargo?
Was he a broker or company driver?
Was the truck impounded?
Was he granted bail, or was he considered to be a flight risk?
