R.R. Plett takes first steps toward becoming zero-emission fleet
B.C. drayage fleet R.R. Plett Trucking took the first steps toward being a zero-emission fleet by 2030, by adding two battery-electric trucks to its fleet.
The trucks are Volvo VNR Electric models with range of up to 275 miles (442 km), and will be put into service providing local container drayage services for customers in and around the Port of Vancouver.

“Our vision is to shift our fleet to BETs [battery-electric trucks] to meet our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, improve operational efficiency, and lead the charge in implementing green transportation,” said Trevor Plett, chief operations officer. “We’re excited to take a leadership role in reducing emissions. This aligns with the increasing demand from our customers and communities for environmentally responsible practices.”
The company says it’s taking a customer-centric approach to deploying the trucks, recognizing it’s a significant shift.
“Electric trucks provide a more stable cost structure due to lower fuel and maintenance costs. This economic advantage helps businesses better manage their finances amidst fluctuating fuel prices and evolving regulations,” said Plett.

It takes a leader to change the landscape. Kudos to Plett Trucking for leading the way. In an industry that is sometimes tagged with old thinking, it is refreshing to see Plett Trucking be out front and taking steps that others can follow.
