Bridgestone supports fight against human trafficking

by Today's Trucking Staff

LOUISVILLE, KY – Bridgestone Americas is extending its support of Truckers Against Trafficking, a non-profit group that mobilizes the trucking industry and travel plazas to help fight human trafficking. And the most visible evidence was at the Mid-America Trucking Show, where it offered space to the organization’s educational trailer.

“Truck drivers are the eyes and ears of the commercial trucking industry, and we must work together to end human trafficking once and for all,” said Kurt Danielson, president, Bridgestone Commercial Group, U.S. and Canada.

The Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund has since 2012 offered financial help and outreach support to Truckers Against Trafficking. Company leaders also serve on the board of directors.

Since the group was founded in 2009, truckers have made more than 1,300 calls to the National Human Trafficking Resource Centre hotline, and identified 415 likely human trafficking cases and 723 victims, 241 of whom were minors.
