Carrier and driver from Humboldt tragedy sued for negligence
REGINA, Sask. – Derek Patter, his parents Roy and Laurel, and the Province of Alberta are suing the trucking company and driver who collided with the Humboldt Broncos team bus, killing 16 and injuring 13.
Patter is a former Humboldt Broncos player who was seriously injured in the collision. The Regina-Leader Post reported the news, saying the lawsuit was filed March 13 at the Regina Court of Queen’s Bench.
The Alberta government is seeking compensation in the amount of $250,000 for the cost of Patter’s health services following the accident.
Patter and his family are seeking compensation for lost income, losses relating to rehabilitation and health care, and economic losses and costs.
The crash resulted in the former Broncos player suffering from several injuries, including a concussion and amnesia, fractures to his nose, teeth, and leg, numerous lacerations, joint dysfunction, chronic pain, and severe psychological injury and trauma.
The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the carrier involved, Adesh Deol Trucking, and driver Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, who pleaded guilty in January 2019 to 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death and 13 counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Hi-again lack of formal training,our government is the guilty party.
Even if they technically win, doubt they will see any results. Everyone involved is being sued for so much there is no way they’ll ever come up with that money.
Maybe it is time to begin installing seatbelts in buses? They are in cars, trucks, aircraft and the like. They do save lives.
As sad as this story has is, why did the government mandate ELDs for federal carriers as a result? This guy clearly was inexperienced and the legal 13. 5hr day probably still wouldn’t have saved him.
ELDs make it more unsafe for truckers by reducing their flexibility. Alot of oilfield trucking is across only one provincial border and most of the time were in the middle of no where and need the flexibility for our operations. CTA only understand highway long haul, ofid should be exempt if only across one provincial border.
there is hold in the overall story, facts are revealing that the WHY’S were asked after facts( after the accident)
Why not before? The shipper…. the truck wholesaler….the driver license agency….. etc.
My points, we all know that there is a lot of people on the highway that should not be driving trucks or cars.
Why? because they are not experienced and or competent, and or responsable, and or accountable for the job they are doing. To be accountable mean that you responsible for what you do and the conséquences of your gestures. Who will pay for the consequences of this accident?
