OTTAWA, Ont. — Wage subsidies are available to trucking employers who hire recent college and university graduates, under the newly launched Youth Employment Strategy Program (YES).

The YES program targets the following occupations within the trucking industry:
 professional drivers,
 driver trainers,
 transportation safety professionals,
 dispatchers,
 mechanics,
 accountants,
 sales and marketing,
 information technologies, and
 human resources.

Both carriers and individual participants benefit from this program. The carriers receive a subsidy of the participant’s salary and provide a work experience placement of six to 12 month period. The individual participants gain experience in the trucking work environment, making them marketable and ideal candidates for full-time employment in the trucking industry.

The YES program for trucking was announced by the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council (CTHRC) whose mission is to assist the Canadian trucking industry to recruit, train and retain the human resources needed to meet current and long-term requirements.

For more information on the Youth Employment Strategy Program or to apply, e-mail Sylvie Ppin, project coordinator, at yes@cthrc.com.
