Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers seized nearly 77 kilograms of cocaine from a commercial truck at the Coutts, Alta., port of entry.

The drugs — found Sept. 25, during a secondary examination of the truck entering Canada from the U.S. — have an estimated street value of about $7 million. Officers arrested the driver, identified as 28-year-old Surj Singh Salaria of Calgary.

A criminal investigation was launched and Salaria has been charged with importation of a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and attempting to export prohibited or controlled goods. He is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Oct. 27, 2025.

  • It would be prudent to provide the name of the carrier that this driver works for. There are shippers that still do their due diligence when selecting carriers. It would be interesting to know if the carrier does detailed background and reference checks when recruiting or are they just pencil whiping their driver qualification files which is quite prevalent.

    • That is the same comment I made awhile go – make the carrier’s name visible – may want to ck if it is one that is used so flags can be put in place when needed or perhaps one to stay away from
