INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Cummins has announced that its medium-duty ISB 6.5 engine has bettered original fuel-economy estimates.

“Innovation is not limited to the brand new,” said Jeff Caldwell, executive director – North America truck Original Equipment Manufacturers.

Cummins B6.7The B6.7, which the company describes as its “uptime champion” promised 7% better fuel efficiency than its 2013 counterpart last year. But that has proven to average 8.5% in efficiency ratings, and as much as 13% in pickup and delivery applications. Performance ratings have reached 5% improvements compared to original projections of 1%, and as much as 11% in specific duty cycles. It’s higher than the company originally though was possible, Caldwell said.

It gets better. With stop-start capabilities, made possible through software upgrades, the engine’s fuel economy reportedly builds 2-15% on top of that. There are also the added benefits of lower Noise, Vibration and Harshness levels.

The B6.7 comes with a three-year, unlimited-mile warranty.
