FERGUS, Ont. — Almost $12,000 was handed out this week to 12 groups that assisted with the 2002 Fergus Truck Show, bringing the total raised for community groups to more than $370,000.

Cheques totalling $11,997.50 were divided between the following community organizations: Alma Optimist, Centre Wellington In Line Hockey, Community Living, Community Pantry, Elora Mohawks, Fergus Devils, Highland Rugby, Tennis Club, Grand Harmony Chorus, Habitat for Humanity, Royal City Ambassadors and St. John Ambulance.

The groups worked a combined total of almost 1,700 hours organizing the 2002 Fergus Truck Show. More than 715 volunteers worked the event.

“The Fergus Truck Show continues to be a very positive benefit to the community, both in the dollars raised for the groups and the economic spin offs. The Fergus Truck Show’s economic impact on the area is well more than $50 million,” says Wayne Billings, president of the show.

The Fergus event is billed as North America’s largest “show & shine” truck show. The 2003 event takes place next July 25-27.
