Freight between US, Canada fell 13% in November to $53.7 billion
Freight between the United States and Canada was $53.7 billion in November, down 13.1% from November 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
BTS said overall U.S. transborder freight with Canada and Mexico was $124.8 billion, down 4.7% from November 2024. Trucks moved $83.7 billion of freight, up 1.4% from a year earlier.

Freight between the U.S. and Mexico was $71.1 billion, up 2.9% from November 2024. Detroit, Port Huron, Mich., and Buffalo, N.Y., were the top truck ports for U.S. freight flows with Canada, while Laredo and El Paso, Texas, and Otay Mesa, Calif., were the top truck ports with Mexico.
Separately, BTS said its truck-rail freight transportation services index rose 0.2% in December from November, the second straight monthly increase. The index was also up 0.2% from December 2024.
The index increased in December due to gains in rail intermodal and trucking, while rail carload volumes declined. The index includes only domestic for-hire rail and truck transportation but excludes private trucking, courier services, and the U.S. Postal Service. BTS also revised the November truck-rail freight TSI to 134.8 from 134.9.
