B.C.-based hydrogen technology provider HTEC is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Founded in 2004 in North Vancouver, HTEC has contributed to developing and operating hydrogen energy solutions across North America, particularly in the transportation sector’s transition to a low-carbon future.

“We are excited to celebrate 20 years in the industry and a significant milestone in HTEC’s history,” said Colin Armstrong, president and chief executive officer of HTEC, in a news release. “Our journey has been driven by a commitment to advancing hydrogen technology and providing solutions to drive positive environmental change. We are grateful to our dedicated team, investors, partners, and customers who have supported us throughout this incredible journey.”

HTEC’s origins trace back to its early work on the B.C. Hydrogen Highway projects, where the company built and operated the first by-product hydrogen capture, purification, and compression plant.

Today, HTEC operates Canada’s first network of hydrogen refueling stations and recently launched the H2 Gateway program. The initiative aims to add up to 20 more refueling stations, three electrolyzers, a 15-tonne-per-day liquefaction facility, and 100 heavy-duty fuel cell electric trucks in Western Canada.

“I believe that hydrogen is one of the essential pillars in our transition to clean energy and I am delighted to be working with the talented team at HTEC in realizing this transition,” said Peter Bradshaw, chairman of the HTEC board. “HTEC’s past and present achievements catalyze progress in the hard-to-decarbonize transportation sector, and I look forward to future innovations HTEC will bring to Canada and the U.S.”
