International ready for 2027 EPA rule with S13 powertrain
International Motors said its 2027 S13 integrated powertrain meets the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s emissions requirements for 2027 model year trucks.
The S13 carries over more than 90% of the hardware from the current platform and offers fleets similar fuel economy, driving experience, and powertrain weight. International said North American fleets have logged more than 700 million miles (1.12 billion km) with the existing powertrain.
“We’ve been preparing for EPA 2027 for years. Our customers won’t face surprises, only the same proven powertrain,” said Dan Kayser, International’s executive vice president of commercial operations. “Our customers get a reliable solution without unnecessary complexity.”
Jim Park of trucknews.com recently had the opportunity to test drive the powertrain and to take a deep dive into how it was developed after International joined forces with MAN and Scania as part of the Traton Group.
Speaking on a Jan. 7 media call, Kayser said International has “no reason to believe” the EPA’s 2027 emissions rule won’t proceed as planned, even though additional clarity on some details may still be needed.
