Kentucky latest U.S. state to raise speed limit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Pending legislation on mandatory speed limiters may force some truckers in Ontario and Quebec to slow down, but in another Midwest state drivers will be allowed to hit the throttle a little harder.

Kentucky just increased the speed limit on interstates and state parkways outside urban areas to 70 mph.

State highway crews posted the new speed limit this week on 496 signs throughout the state, the Louisville Courier-Journal reports.

Speed limits on interstates in urban areas will not go up.

Kentucky’s speed limit now matches that of neighbor states Indiana, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
