NB allows new oversize load permit rules

FREDERICTON — Starting today, New Brunswick’s Ministry of Transportation is implementing changes permitting conditions for certain oversize loads to be allowed to move at night and on weekends.

Minister Denis Landry says the new rules harmonize New Brunswick’s policies for oversize loads with those in the other Atlantic Provinces.

Loads wider than 3.05 metres (10 feet) will not be permitted to move at night on two-lane roads. But loads up to 3.65 m (12 feet) will be permitted to travel at night on multi-lane divided highways only, while loads up to 30 m long will be allowed to travel at night on all highways.

The definition of daytime travel is also being redefined as travel between sunrise and sunset, instead of one half-hour after sunrise to one half-hour before sunset.

These new conditions will apply to annual and quarterly oversize permits upon renewal and they will apply to single trip permits effective Nov. 19. Holders of existing quarterly and annual permits that wish to operate under the new conditions will have to have their permits renewed after that date.
