Trucking HR Canada (THRC) has launched a new Trucking and Logistics Workforce Bootcamp series, beginning with a one-day event in Calgary focused on discussions about workforce challenges and dynamics.

“Our industry is facing real pressure — labor challenges, compliance complexity, shifting expectations — and leaders are carrying a lot. In times like this, investing in people and strengthening leadership isn’t optional, it’s essential,” said Angela Splinter, CEO, THRC, in a news release. ”This unique learning opportunity helps leaders grow stronger, and when they do their companies become more resilient.”

The bootcamp featured insights on regional labor market intelligence and work environment in the sector, as well as peer discussions that focused on the current and future state of trucking and logistics in Alberta.

A panel discussion included executives from THRC’s Alberta-based Top Fleet Employers, Caron Transportation Systems, and Trimac Transportation.

THRC also presented the Women’s Leadership Accord Certificate of Excellence to Women Building Futures, bringing the total signatories to 50.

A special discussion was dedicated to the results of THRC’s Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) graduate research, which showed that most employers believe expectations for training newly licensed drivers are too high and that onboarding new drivers is more costly than hiring experienced operators. Other findings discussed included rising driver compensation in the province and 73% of MELT graduates finding full-time employment after graduation.
