COLUMBUS, Ind. — Net orders for new trailers dropped 11% month-over-month in March, however industry analyst ACT Research says demand remains healthy.

In its State of the Industry: US Trailers report, Act indicated first quarter net orders remained consistent with the first quarter of 2011.

It also noted every trailer category saw an uptick in build.

“Every trailer category posted month-over-month gains in build,” said Frank Maly, director, CV transportation with ACT Research. “Coupled with the modest drop in orders, the total industry backlog fell just over 1% month-over-month. Despite incremental softness, the backlog was up 17% compared to year-ago levels. Industry backlogs remain supportive of current production levels.”
