Chief Trailer Wizard Does Magic With Student Loan

MISSISSAUGA — What started with one trailer has expanded to 19,000,  Carl Vanderspek, CEO of Trailer Wizards, told an audience at the company’s Mississauga, ON branch over an appreciation lunch Thursday afternoon.

The event is a part of the Trailer Wizards’ 50th anniversary customer appreciation events happening around the country until the end of June.

Vanderspek says he started the business by getting a student loan and using it to buy his first trailer, following in his father’s footsteps, who had also worked for years in the trucking industry.

Fifty years later, Vanderspek oversees a family business that now borders on an empire. His son, Doug Vanderspek now helps to run the company — their positions are CEO and president, respectively.

In May, Trailer Wizards donated $25,000 to Food Banks Canada and is looking to customers and suppliers to help donate an additional $25,000 to the cause. The day’s event also featured a food drive, with plenty of non-perishable items, as well as money from a 50/50 draw, going towards the Mississauga Food Bank.

There are still a few more anniversary events happening across the country before the end of June (listed below). If they cook the chicken the same way they did at the Mississauga event, then be sure to grab a piece — it was delicious.

  • • June 7 & 8 – Moncton, NB (Atlantic Truck Show)
  • • June 12 – Saskatoon, SK
  • • June 13 – Regina, SK
  • • June 19 – Montreal, QC
