Jenkins joined Kingsway Transport in Toronto in 1953 as a dock worker after immigrating to Canada from London, U.K. in 1948 at the age of 16. He rose through the ranks, becoming dock foreman after the company moved from Bathurst to North Queen St. While working full-time and studying at the University of Toronto, he advanced to terminal manager for the Hamilton, Kitchener, and Toronto terminals. Later, he transitioned into managing Kingsway’s computer systems, traveling across Canada to train staff on the ‘Cobis’ billing and order system.
