New truck x-ray machine nearly built
CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. — The U.S. Customs Service is reportedly nearing the completion of work to construct a new truck x-ray facility here.
The system, according to sources in a coalition of Quebec-New York trade corridor users, will “enhance security by permitting staff to see the contents of every truck passing through the port, without slowing processing appreciably.”
The x-ray facility will be the first of its kind deployed along the Canada-U.S. border. U.S. Customs is picking up the entire $1.5- to $2-million tab for the initiative.
