LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Cummins today announced extended oil drain intervals for ISX and ISM customers using Valvoline Premium Blue engine oil.

“We are committed to providing our customers with the most reliable and durable engines, along with the lowest total operating costs. The extension of the ISX and ISM engine oil drain intervals for those customers using Valvoline Premium Blue further solidifies Cummins as the leader in providing the lowest life cycle costs for our customers,” said Cummins Executive Director – Marketing Tom Kieffer. “Through our partnership with Valvoline, Premium Blue has been extensively tested in our heavy-duty truck engines. Cummins and Valvoline Premium Blue customers can be confident that their engines will perform reliably with these longer oil drain intervals.”

Company officials say Premium Blue’s Dispersive Polymer Technology (DPT), which provides advanced soot-fighting capabilities and cold start protection, has allowed oil drain intervals to increase from 15,000 to 20,000 miles (24,141 km to 32,187 km) for severe service, from 25,000 to 35,000 miles (40,234 km to 56,328 km) for normal service and from 35,000 to 45,000 miles (56,325 km to 72,421 km) for light-duty service.

Premium Blue, which is approved by Cummins Inc. for extended oil drain intervals, has been extensively tested on Cummins cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) engines in the lab and on the road, say officials. Premium Blue exceeds the requirements for the API CI-4 performance classification, as well as Cummins CES 20078 engine oil standards, intended to address strict new diesel emissions requirements, say officials.

“Our team worked extremely hard along with Cummins engineers to develop a high- quality engine oil that provides a better value to the customer in modern engines,” said Dr. Fran Lockwood, sr. vice president, technology, at The Valvoline Company. “The extended drain capability in Premium Blue is a result of innovative chemistry proven by thousands of hours of engine testing and millions of miles of field testing.”
