Windsor-Detroit Tunnel expansion plans unveiled
WINDSOR, Ont. — The public gets its first look today at plans to upgrade the Detroit-Windsor rail tunnel link and create a dedicated under-river commercial truck route between Highway 401 and I-75.
The Detroit River Tunnel Partnership is holding a public information session from 4-9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Select, at 1855 Huron Church Rd. in Windsor. There will be project displays, and representatives of the DRTP will be on hand. The group will make a brief presentation and a question-and-answer session starting at 7 p.m.
Tonight’s information session is the first in a series to be held by the DRTP as part of its environmental assessment of the river tunnel project. The project is an effort to improve the flow of trade traffic at the Windsor-Detroit crossing.
The DRTP is a partnership between Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) and Borealis Transportation Infrastructure Trust (BTIT), which is owned by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS). OMERS is one of Canada’s largest pension funds and a leading Canadian investor in infrastructure projects.
