CAW to review enhanced CN offer

MONTREAL, Que.– Truckers frustrated by yet another round of delays at CN’s Brampton Intermodal Terminal will be keeping a close eye on CAW talks this weekend.

The bargaining committee of the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) representing striking rail employees is to meet in Toronto tomorrow to review CN’s enhanced offer.

CN Brampton Terminal (BIT) was closed for much of Thursday to truck traffic due to CAW picket action.

CN on March 10 offered the CAW three choices to resolve the current labour dispute: a good faith cooling-off period; binding arbitration; and the CAW agreeing to submit an enhanced CN offer to a ratification vote.

In response, the CAW turned down the first two options and invited CN to table an enhanced offer. Last night CN made that offer.
“CN hopes that the union will accept the enhanced offer and submit it to a ratification vote as soon as possible. This is the best way to end this unfortunate strike,” a company press release issued late on Friday stated.
