Ontario to ban cell phone use while driving

TORONTO, Ont. — Media reports today have suggested the province of Ontario will ban the use of cell phones and other handheld devices while driving.

Transport Minister Jim Bradley has called a press conference for later today, where it’s expected he’ll introduce the new legislation.

Cell phones, blackberries and handheld GPS systems will all be covered under the law, according to the Toronto Star. Dash-mounted GPS systems and cell phones will earpieces or Bluetooth capabilities will still be allowed, according to the report.

Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Quebec already have laws on the books that condemn the use of cell phones while driving.
