Minor injuries on the rise
QUEBEC CITY, Que. – Over the last five years, minor injuries resulting from accidents involving transport trucks have increased more than 11 per cent.
At the same time, the mortality rate for all travellers running the routes of la Belle Province has remained relatively the same and serious injuries are on the decrease.
The number of deaths involving rigs rose marginally by about .7 per cent – in line with the overall average increase for all road users from 1999 to 2000. Serious injuries fell 5.4 per cent between 1999 and 2000 and an even more impressive 10.8 per cent between 1995 to 1999.
Traffic safety experts say it is important to note the actual number of trucks running the highways of the province have been continually increasing at the same time major accidents have been on the decline. n
