THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Police believe that a 39-year-old member of a road repair crew in Thunder Bay, Ont. was killed by an exploding truck tire.

John Kornylo was found face down on the ground on Oct. 16, with a truck tire across his lower body. Fellow workers told Upsala Ontario Provincial Police that he had been seen working on two tires earlier in the day.

The tires were not attached to a vehicle, but it’s thought that one tire split apart when he was attempting to air it up.

Police are conducting a joint investigation with the Ontario Ministry of Labor. Results were unknown at press time. n
