Mack Pinnacle with natural gasMack says it’s responding to customer demand and is now offering the Eaton UltraShift Plus transmission and Bendix Wingman Advanced collision mitigation technology on natural-gas-powered versions of its Pinnacle model.

Customers wanted the option of an automated transmission, the truck maker says, as well as the benefits of Wingman Advanced safety technology in the natural gas Pinnacle mode.

The latter system provides adaptive cruise control with braking that actively intervenes to help drivers maintain a safe following distance by reducing the throttle, engaging the engine retarder, or applying the foundation brakes if necessary.

Equipped with the Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine, Pinnacle models can run on either compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG). The maintenance-free aftertreatment system, combined with low-cost natural gas, reduces vehicle lifecycle costs and thereby improves customers’ return on investment.
