MTA to dole out scholarship money

WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Trucking Association will be awarding $8,000 in scholarships and awards to deserving young people in 2010.

“The value of a good education cannot be understated,” said MTA Executive Director Bob Dolyniuk. “With the current economic situation, these scholarships are as valuable as they have ever been as families work hard to ensure that their children receive the post-secondary education they need and deserve.

“Further, some of these scholarships are dedicated to those entering the transportation industry, which means that we can be drawing some of the best and brightest into the trucking industry.”

Scholarships and awards that are available include: MTA Associated Trades Division Scholarships (3 x $1,000 each), Edward M. Ewanochko Transportation Scholarship (1 x $500), Winnipeg Transportation Club Scholarship (1 x $500), MTA Associated Trades Division Apprenticeship Awards (2 x $1,000 each), and MTA Vehicle Maintenance Council Awards (2 x $500 + $500 in tools).

Further information about each of these awards and scholarships, including application criteria and forms, can be found on the MTA website, under “Scholarships and Awards.”
