TransForce still looking to make fleet pickups in US

MONTREAL – TransForce will continue  barreling southbound on the acquisition trail says its president and CEO now that it has a major foothold in the North American courier, same-day sector.

At TransForce’s annual shareholders’ meeting in Toronto, Alain Bédard said its recent acquisitions of DHL Express’ courier business and Dallas-based package deliverer, Dynamex, are two of its most important deals to date.

The latter, especially, gives the company a "key U.S. growth platform and a bigger presence in Canada," the Montreal Gazette quoted him as saying.

He added the company is busy "digesting" the two acquisitions, "integrating them with our own networks and paying down debt."
Bedard said the U.S. market will continue to be the main focus while truckload and LTL operations at home in Quebec "need work."

TransForce’s results for the first quarter ending March 31 showed revenue (including fuel surcharges) was $561 million, up from $466 million a year earlier, despite a slow economy.
