Houston-based Jetco is marking its 50th year in business.

The fleet, founded in 1976, provides drayage, open-deck, heavy-haul, dry-van and asset-based freight brokerage, and warehousing, with locations in Houston, Dallas, Pasadena and Freeport. It is owned by Canadian specialized transport firm GTI Group.

Jetco was founded by the Mattern brothers with two trucks. It has built a safety culture through its in-house Driving 2 Perfection (D2P) program, the company said in a release.

“D2P challenges employees and their families daily to build and refine safer habits, whether in a commercial or personal vehicle,” the company said. “It’s a vibrant, living and breathing culture that drives every decision and action.”

“Jetco’s growth is attributed to its Driving 2 Perfection safety culture, which pushes us to reject complacency and continually ask how we can innovate in an industry that is traditionally slow to adopt new technology and ideas,” said Jetco President Kyle Kristynik. “Our success is a result of our employees’ and clients’ belief in and investment in culture; we would not be looking forward to the next 50-plus years without D2P ingrained in our DNA.”

Today, the fleet employs more than 200 people and operates more than 175 trucks and 350 trailers.

The company plans staff celebrations during its annual safety meeting this spring. It also plans a chassis-pool refresh this year and is evaluating zero-emission trucks. Jetco sees growth ahead for its heavy-haul and project freight business and is investing in new trucks and multi-axle trailers.
