July Class 8 orders surprisingly high: ACT

by Truck News

COLUMBUS, Ind. — July’s Class 8 truck order intake surprised on the high side, thanks in part to a large 9,000-truck order landed by International.

ACT Research said total Class 8 orders were just over 24,600 units in July, while Classes 5-7 net orders came in at 15,900 units.

“In July, Class 8 orders broke to the high side of expectations for the first time since February, producing seasonally adjusted net orders to 29,600,” said Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst with ACT. “Helping drive the high-side outcome in July was a large press-release worthy 9,000 unit, multi-year order, but even if this is excluded July’s orders were well ahead of expectations.”
