McCarthy Tire Service has expanded its commercial tire business with the acquisition of the commercial fleet operations of Henise Tire Service.

The Wilkes-Barre, Penn.-based company announced it has purchased Henise Tire Service’s commercial fleet truck tire sales, shop services and Bandag retreading operations effective March 9. The deal comes as McCarthy Tire Service celebrates its 100th anniversary of serving the transportation industry.

As part of the acquisition, McCarthy Tire will continue operating two Henise commercial locations in Allentown and Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Henise Tire Service will retain ownership of its wholesale and retail consumer tire business at its other locations.

McCarthy Tire said the transition will allow customers to maintain access to major commercial tire brands such as Bridgestone, Firestone, Yokohama, Continental and General, while continuing production of Bandag retreads previously manufactured through Henise’s commercial operations.

Henise’s commercial fleet customers will also gain access to McCarthy Tire’s 24/7 roadside assistance network, which includes in-house dispatchers and service technicians.

“Our primary goal has always been, and remains, taking exceptional care of our customers,” said John McCarthy III, president in training and a fourth-generation member of the McCarthy family. “We are incredibly happy to see our customer base grow through this acquisition and look forward to building strong relationships with Henise Tire Service’s commercial fleet customers.”

Sean Smyth, president of Henise Tire Service, said the sale allows the company to focus its attention on its wholesale and consumer tire business, while ensuring commercial fleet customers continue to receive service from a company with similar values.

“Henise has been servicing our customers for 70 years, and I am confident that McCarthy Tire Service is the right organization to take our commercial fleet customers into the future,” Smyth said.

Founded in 1926, McCarthy Tire Service has grown from a single location into one of the largest independent commercial tire dealers in North America. The company operates more than 75 service locations and 13 Bandag retread plants along the U.S. East Coast.
