A new record was set at this year’s Ontario leg of the World’s Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics. Forty-eight trucks set out from the Paris (Ontario, naturally) Fairgrounds Sept. 14, with their drivers having collectively raised $80,000 in support of Special Olympics. The same scene was playing out all across Canada and the US. In the Ontario edition, the trucks headed out along Hwys. 403 and 401, all the way to Putnam before turning back to Paris. There, the drivers enjoyed an afternoon of fun and games with the Special Olympians.
The highlight for many of the athletes was riding along in the trucks. Most of the drivers will tell you that was their highlight as well. It’s incredible to see the bonds that have been established between the Special Olympians and the professional drivers who participate in the Convoy. Watch for a cover story on the Ontario version of the WLTC in the October issue. We’ll have results from other provinces as they become available. This is a great cause, and the source of some truly amazing PR for the trucking industry.
