Alberta to use km markers at exits

CALGARY, Alta. – Alberta has begun numbering exits along Deerfoot Trail and Hwy. 1 to make it easier for drivers to find where they’re going.

“For people unfamiliar with the area, they have a better chance of remembering numbers than street names,” Sharla Griffiths, operations engineer with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation told local media.

The numbers correspond with the appropriate kilometre along the route, providing drivers with a better idea of the distance to their destination. The old signs, depicting street names, will also remain in their place as well.
