APTA honours trucking champs
MASSTOWN, N.S. – The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA) has recognized the top truck drivers in Atlantic Canada following the 2005 APTA Professional Truck Driving Championships held at Commercial Safety College June 4.
Top honours went to Rod Wood of Midland Transport Limited in the five-axle class, Herb Peters of Day & Ross Inc. in the four-axle class, Sandy Cooke of Armour Transportation Systems in the two-axle class and Blaine Hubley of RST Industries Inc. in the B-Train category. The award for the highest scoring team was presented to Midland Transport Limited while James Chambers of Armour Transportation Systems captured the Rookie of the Year Award.
The winners of the competition will represent the Atlantic Provinces at the 2005 National Driving Championships September 22-24 in Moncton, N.B.
This year’s event had 56 professional truck drivers from across the Atlantic Provinces precision drive through a time limited obstacle course set up at the college in Masstown.
Organized through the APTA Safety Council, the Atlantic Driving Championship is designed to promote safe driving skills and professional awareness among truck drivers. n
