LANGLEY, B.C. – The B.C. Trucking Association (BCTA) has formed a task force to address the province’s driver shortage and related issues.

The task force is comprised of BCTA directors and was formed as a result of the worsening shortage of qualified drivers.

The group already held its first meeting and plans to continue providing the association with direction on human resource strategies and initiatives. Training standards, licensing standards, promoting the industry to job-seekers and trying to facilitate companies and workers to connect are some of the priorities to be tackled by the Task Force.

It will also be exploring the use of immigration as a possible solution.

The newly formed group plans to meet every three weeks over the next four months so it can come up with a detailed plan and establish some goals. It will then report to the BCTA and suggest what the association’s role should be in addressing the human resource shortage, the association reports.
