Trucknews.com has been nominated for a Canadian Business Press Award. The site, managed by Web editor Adam Ledlow, was named one of the Top 10 finalists with the gold and silver prize to be given out in early June. Ledlow orchestrated a significant redesign of the site this year, which in addition to its well-known daily industry news now includes weekly spec’ing and business advice features, statistics and frequent blogs by Transportation Media editors.

Transportation Media editorial director Lou Smyrlis was invited to speak on trends and issues in management pay for the transportation and logistics professions at the Research Forum hosted by Supply Chain & Logistics Association Canada (SCL) in early May. Smyrlis spoke to the results from the 7th annual salary survey on salary trends, conducted by Transportation Media Research in partnership with TSI Group Inc., a specialized recruitment and advisory firm, SCL and Laurier Business and Economics. Smyrlis also interviewed TSI Group president and CEO Pamela Ruebusch in front of a live audience on how the survey data reflected everyday hiring and training realities in the field.

Smyrlis is next off to Western Canada where he will resume the cross-country speaking tour on the impact of fuel price volatility on carriers and shippers and available options to dealing with the issue. The tour is co-sponsored by Transportation Media Research and Markel Insurance. While in Calgary and Edmonton Smyrlis has also been invited by shipper groups to speak on trucking industry trends and issues.

Transportation Media Research has also just completed its annual Shipper’s Choice Award survey, which asks shippers from across Canada to rate the performance of their leading carriers in all modes. The survey had a record response and the results, currently being tabulated, will be published in the August issue of Canadian Transportation & Logistics. And Transportation Media Research is also preparing to launch its annual Equipment Buying Trends Survey. The survey, conducted in coordination with more than dozen major industry suppliers, attempts to gain insight into fleet and owner/operator preferences on a wide variety of purchase decisions from trucks to tires.
