WINNIPEG, Man. – Bison Transport has expanded its Canadian presence with the purchase of two B.C.-based fleets.

Glenncoe Transport and Winfield Motor Freight are both Kelowna-based operations and have been owned and operated by the Coe family since 1972. Glenncoe Transport is a truckload carrier, primarily serving B.C., Alberta and the US Pacific Northwest. Winfield Motor Freight is an LTL service provider connecting B.C.’s coast with the Interior of the province.

“The acquisition of Glenncoe Transport and Winfield Motor Freight is part of our continued investment in serving the transportation needs of the Western Canadian marketplace,” said Don Streuber, president and CEO of Bison. “Glenncoe brings a committed management team, support staff and driver base, along with significant knowledge and understanding of the Alberta and B.C. market. Through Bison, they will have access to the depth and support of a much larger national carrier, including our systems, IT, and administrative services.”

Glenncoe operates 160 trucks, 550 trailers and employs more than 200 people. Winfield Motor Freight operates 40 trucks, 20 trailers and currently employs 50 people.

“Bison Transport have proven their ability to build a strong transportation business, staying true to their core values, and committed to their people,” said Don Coe, president of Glenncoe. “We look forward to being part of that culture, and gaining from the administration, systems, and marketing support, while at the same time running Glenncoe as a distinct separate business.”

Don Coe and his brother Glenn Coe will continue on in leadership positions at Glenncoe Transport and Winfield Motor Freight.

For Bison, the acquisition follows a series of recent expansions and new service launches, including the opening of a new terminal and maintenance facility in Calgary, a new intermodal division connecting Ontario with Western Canada, a refrigerated division serving the US and Canada, and its rapid expansion of turnpike double operations (twin 53′ trailers) in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
